VIC - Greyhound Adoption Program of Vic. are seeking a Foster Carer

They are seeking: Foster carers required for greyhounds

Foster carers are required to take a greyhound into your home for 3-4 weeks and prepare them for life as a domestic pet.

Importantly, we do not burden you with keeping a dog for extended periods, which can make the eventual separation painful for all concerned.

All of our foster carers are covered by insurance, food and other equipment is provided and we pay any vet bills as well as provide foster carers with a travel gratuity payment.

Tasks include housetraining (greyhounds are already kennel trained, so they`re almost housetrained anyway), introducing them to new experiences such as TV`s, vacuum cleaners, shiny floors, children and other pets. Foster carers also teach the dogs appropriate house manners (eg no jumping on furniture or kitchen benches, sitting quietly on their mats inside). Carers gauge the dog`s reaction to different situations (eg visiting local shops or school, traffic, loud noises) and provide feedback on the most appropriate home for each dog.

Fostering is an easy and very rewarding experience that requires no previous skills or qualifications. All that is required is a love of these very lazy, docile dogs and a desire to help them find their “forever” homes as pets. GAP welcomes foster carers from a variety of backgrounds, including people living in apartments, full time workers, single people, retirees or families with children and/or other animals.

Carers also have a support network available to them at all times. Fostering can be undertaken as often or as little as the carer wishes. It is also an ideal way for prospective adoptees to get to know the breed before making the decision to adopt one.

Please contact Melanie Luscombe on 03 5799 0166 - or email - if you can help with this request.

QLD - Devon, Cornish & Selkirk Rex Rescue are seeking a Foster Carer

They are seeking: Calling all foster carers extraordinaire!

Rex Rescue is dedicated to the Devon, Cornish and Selkirk breeds of cats. We're looking for foster carers who DON'T have cats, DON'T necessarily want the full time responsibility of owning one and DO want to help us save and re-home healthy, adoptable cats, thereby reducing euthanasia rates of a breed that is sadly, often misunderstood at shelter level.

Rex cats are unique in that their personalities are more dog like than cat. Inquisitive, playful and very, very fond of companionship, this breed has been known to fret from loneliness, resulting in depression.

Since their curly coat is perfect for those that suffer allergies and with only two layers of hair (domestic cats and other breeds have three) there is very little maintenance associated with hair loss.

We are looking for foster parents that have patience, basic understanding of cat care, will adhere to foster requirements i.e. cats MUST remain indoors while in foster, be available for potential adoptors to view the animals at appointments mutually convenient and always show compassion and kindness towards their foster charge.

If you think this is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference and that you're up to the challenge, then we'd love to hear from you!

Please contact Janene Wells on 0432 405 474 - or email - if you can help with this request.

VIC - Greyhound Rescue NSW & VIC are seeking a Foster Carer

They are seeking: Foster Carers Needed For Rescued Greyhounds

Greyhound Rescue is a small non-profit group, operating in NSW and VIC. We rely heavily on the help of our generous volunteers and donations.

Greyhound Rescue urgently need foster carers in Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs to provide a temporary home for beautiful loving greyhounds until a permanent home for them can be found.

Foster caring for one of our greyhounds is hugely rewarding and very easy. Foster times can vary but it is normally between 2 - 6 weeks. So we do need you to be fully committed during this time.

We try to save as many greyhounds as we can when they have finished their racing career, or failed to start one, who then end up in the pounds or are surrendered by trainers and owners - who quite simply would not be alive without us.

It is important for us to have the greyhounds in a home environment where they can adjust from a life in kennels to the everyday happenings around a house - people, vacuuming, TV, dishwashers, stairs, glass doors, other animals, etc. If you own other dogs - large, medium or small that is not a problem, many greyhounds enjoy the company of other dogs. Obviously your own dog must get along very well with other dogs.

If we had more foster carers then we could save the lives of more greyhounds. So if you have the love, commitment and the time to care for one of our greyhounds please contact us.

We currently have more of an urgent need for foster carers who are home more often than not - if you work part time or work from home for example.
This is because some of our rescue greyhounds require more regular care and attention for the following issues -

* Their physical health (some of our rescue greyhounds are underweight due to the lack of care during their early lives in a kennel environment. Some also have poor skin and coats, this can easily be improved and we will of course provide everything needed to help with this - food and supplements etc.)

* Their psychological well being (some of our rescue greyhounds have not had a good start in life and have not had the exposer to life like other breeds of dogs. Some are a little timid and shy, others are confident but still need to learn all about living in a household environment.)

However greyhounds - as all of our current foster carers would tell you......are very quick learners and are still one of the lowest maintenance breed of dog a person could have!

Please also be aware not all of rescue greyhounds come straight from a kennel environment. Some will have been house pets previously or been in other foster homes.

So as a foster carer you role is to teach and guide our rescue greyhounds through the day to day routine of your own household. We will also ask for regular weekly updates and photos of your foster greyhound so we can advertise them as much as possible in the hope of finding them the right loving forever home.

All our rescue greyhounds are - desexed, C5 vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested and treated, intestinal wormed and flea treated.

Greyhounds do not need a huge backyard to run around in, an outside toilet area is sufficient. Most greyhounds are perfectly happy with one - two good walks a day. They can be huge couch potatoes!

All food, supplements and bedding will be provided for all foster carers. Along with 24 hour a day ongoing advice and support. You will not have to spend a cent on your foster greyhound if you do not want to- all costs are covered by us.

We do also ask that all of our rescue greyhounds are to be inside dogs in their foster and forever homes.

Please consider helping these wonderful dogs.

CURRENTLY WE REALLY NEED FOSTER CARERS WHO DO NOT OWN CATS!

Please leave your contact details, we can then send you a foster carer application form.

Thank you

Please contact Greyhound Rescue VIC on 0424569148 - or email - if you can help with this request.
